Mother Nature… is CRYING!

Yeah , we’ve all heard about global warming and how it’s all going to make us regret one day. You’re probably sick of hearing “let’s go green” or “save the Earth”.But have you really really (and I mean really) thought about it?

For those of you who don’t already know, global warming is

When the Earth heats up (temperature rises). It happens when greenhouse gasses (carbon dioxide, water vapour, nitrous oxide, and methane) trap heat and light from the sun in the Earth’s atmosphere, which increases the temperature.”

Imagine this; a car parked out on the open parking space on a hot day. The inside of the car gets hotter, because the heat from the sun goes through the windows but can’t get out. This is what greenhouse gasses do to the Earth, the heat and light can get through the atmosphere, but can’t get back out. This then results in the increase of temperature.

Believe it or not, global warming is happening because of us. Yes, us. Me, you, you and you! The young, the old…we’re all contributing to global warming.

You might ask “why?” so I’ll tell you why. Is your laptop on at this moment while reading this? Do you sleep with the lights on? Do you hate polar bears??

I know, so what, right? Think about it. Leaving your laptop and lights on when you’re idle uses up a lot of energy, and energy releases heat. You may think that doing that contributes nothing to global warming. But think about the many millions and billions of other people doing the same things as you...

Deforestation is happening at this very moment as you are running your eyes through this. We humans are already producing too much warming CO₂ into the air, and trees are being cut down which leaves us with less oxygen and more carbon dioxide! Plus, we’re burning fossil fuels too quickly. Using these fuels emit CO₂ into the atmosphere more than anything else does. Don’t even get me started with the amount of trash we produce, and oh the open burning!

If the temperature of the Earth continues to rise, the ice in the Arctic will melt, and sea levels will rise. Imagine polar bears swimming and swimming in search of ice to rest, but what happens if there’s none? We’re endangering many other animals as well – koalas, birds, grizzly bears - if we don’t help with the climate change.

Oceans can even turn acidic! You read right, oceans may turn acidic, because oceans absorb CO₂. When CO₂ mixes with seawater, it turns to a weak carbonic acid. Normally, calcium from eroded rocks creates a natural shield and most marine life is adjusted to the balance.  As we produce more and more CO₂, we tip the whole balancing thing off!

What else happens? More hurricanes, stronger thunderstorms, more wildfire... in short, more natural disasters. I’m sure we don’t want that happening now would we.

“Going green” goes further than just reducing, reusing, and recycling. Here are the simple things you can do to help the Earth.

  1. Clean your fan
Cleaning your fan not only helps use lesser energy, it also gives you a cooler breeze!

  1. Turn it off
Turn all electrical appliances off when you’re not using them. This saves money, and saves the Earth.

  1. Pull the plug
It’s not enough to just switch it off; pulling the plug will greatly lower down energy consumption.

  1. Plant a tree
More trees = more oxygen = less carbon dioxide

  1. Reuse your shopping bags
It reduces waste, so it reduces pollution altogether!

  1. Spread the Love!
Nothing’s stronger than the word-of-mouth!
