In conjunction with the 3R campaign launched by the Waste Management Association of Malaysia (WMAM), the Nature Club of UiTM Shah Alam in collaboration with Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam (MBSA) organized a “Hari Bergotong-Royong di UiTM Shah Alam”.
The event comprised of numerous activities as celebrity talks, clean up around major areas around the University, games, and also lunch. Sixty Nature Club members together with 12 MBSA officers and the 45 volunteers from University students made this event a success.
Green-friendly celebrity Yuna and the band Hujan came in support of this campaign. Yuna gave a fun-filled talk about how she thinks it is important for everyone to recycle. Hujan performed acoustic sessions singing songs, even doing a cover of Zainal Abidin’s Hijau.
During the clean-up session, the Nature Club made it interesting by making a competition of who can collect the most recycled items within the given time-frame. Those with the heaviest bags of recyclable items won fast-food vouchers, and signed Yuna and Hujan albums.
Nature Club president Adam bin Luqman said that it is the first time they organized such a big-scaled event. “Usually, our club will just have small outings to the park. This time we decided to give back to the University”
This 6-hour event was supported greatly and many positive feedbacks were received after the event was over. Many said that an event like this should be done more often. A student said, “It was great that it wasn’t just all talk. We had fun cleaning up! We had a great time listening to music as well.”
An MBSA representative said that the event was a great success. “These young people did a great job. It is good that we got the younger generations involved in taking care of the environment. They need to know about how they can help save the Earth.”
