The Waste Management Association of Malaysia (WMAM) launched the 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) campaign at the press conference in Putrajaya last April. The campaign is organized in order to ensure everyone's habits of throwing daily waste changes to optimize the recycling attitude.
The Chairman, Ho De Leong explained that the event actually helps people to understand about the importance of 3R and also about the organization itself as WMAM actually works to promote and encourage the maintenance of high standards of waste management services in Malaysia in respect of solid and liquid waste, hazardous, clinical and all other types of waste.
The campaign will be held in a few primary locations and will move on to other rural areas. The campaign aims to result in an increase in the quantity of solid waste (this excludes toxic and chemical wastes) recycled or a reduction in the quantity of solid waste generated. The duration of this campaign is in 8 months as the problem keep continuing from time to time.
The process will start with the distribution of new coloured dustbins to all selected areas that still do not have any of it. If it is broken, it will be replaced with new ones. The campaign will also monitor all the locations’ 3R equipment so that they can continuously provide them to the people at that particular are. The road shows and WMAM exhibitions also will be held at selected mall in all states in these 8 months. Then the campaign will go to several selected schools and also places that need immediate action. One of the places that have confirmed of their participation is Taman Tasik Shah Alam.
Ho De Leong also invited those who are interested to join in the campaign to contact them as the campaign is open for anyone. Lastly he hopes that the event will be successful and that it will get all the support from people out there to make a change for our environment.
